Over at the Australian Prime Minister’s Office, you can read my submission to the Philip Ruddock Panel on Religious Freedom in Australia. (Submission # 73).
Here’s the abstract:
The purpose of this submission is to argue that Australia needs to update its religious freedom protections and to also provide a declarative statement on religious freedom which will hopefully guide legislation on the subject in future debates. It is also asserted that religious freedom needs to be embedded within a proper understanding of secularism. In addition, it is argued that religious freedom will be more properly safe-guarded if governments embrace a philosophy of confident pluralism and eschew civic totalism.
